Payroll and Pensions Officer

  • Contract type: Full time, Permanent
  • Work pattern: 36 hours per week, All Year Around (52 weeks) - Flexible working considered
  • Location: Central Team Office, Cowley St Laurence Primary UB8 3TH (covering 7 primary schools and central functions)
  • Salary information: Scale 5, £32,535 - £33,987 per annum (dependent upon experience)

We are looking for a professional Payroll and Pensions officer to join our Central Team.

Our Finance team is growing, and we are now looking for a Payroll and Pensions Officer to join us! This is a fantastic opportunity for enthusiastic and motivated payroll professionals
with previous experience, ideally within an education setting.

You will be responsible for a section of payroll for day-to-day processing, inputting and calculations associated with providing an excellent payroll service. You will be organised, self-motivated, and able to work to tight deadlines, working closely with our Finance Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee payroll processing, ensure accuracy and timeliness, manage external
    payroll provider relationships, and maintain compliance with statutory
    requirements.
  2. Liaise with pension providers, ensure accurate contributions and statutory returns,
    and respond to pension-related queries.
  3. Act as the first point of contact for payroll and pension queries, work closely with school administrators and the central Finance team, and build strong internal and external relationships.
  4. Ensure audit and statutory compliance, maintain accurate records, and prepare reports for the CFO as required.

The successful candidate will:

  1. Have proven experience in payroll and pensions administration, within the education sector or a similar statutory organisation.
  2. Have strong knowledge of statutory requirements related to payroll, HMRC, and pension schemes.
  3. Have excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  4. Be professional and solution-focused communication skills.
  5. Have the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  6. Have strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  7. Have a commitment to safeguarding children and upholding confidentiality.
