Teaching Assistants

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and efficient Teaching Assistant to work within our vibrant and dedicated Inclusion department.

The Inclusion department offers support to pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) at Little Heath School, as well as students with other social and emotional and learning needs.  The department also helps those pupils for whom engagement with learning is a barrier.  Enthusiasm, patience and a willingness to work with pupils of all ages is necessary.

We currently have two vacancies within the department.  Candidates are welcome to apply for either or express an interest in both within their letter of application. 

  • General Teaching Assistant: We are looking to recruit a Teaching Assistant to offer support to pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).  The Teaching Assistant can add various levels of support within the classroom.  The successful candidate will work with Inclusion leaders to ensure an outstanding provision for all students but most importantly those with SEND. Grade B SP1 £17,864 p.a. pro-rata (Approximately £10,681.00 p.a. 26.25 hours per week, (term time only, plus one Inset)
  • Curriculum Teaching Assistant: We are seeking to appoint a colleague who will be able to support our young people as part of their wider recovery curriculum. The successful candidate will work alongside the Inclusion team in the delivery of a range of curriculum packages and re-engage pupils in the classroom. This person will be working within an area of school dedicated to bespoke curriculum packages as well as supporting these pupils in the classroom environment. Grade B SP1 £17,864 p.a. pro-rata (Approximately £10,681.00 p.a. 26.25 hours per week, (term time only, plus one Inset)

 The person/s we are seeking will:

  • work with individual students to support their academic progress, lesson engagement and emotional wellbeing;
  • support pupils to ensure they make better progress across the curriculum;
  • assist in the personalisation and differentiation of teaching resources and activities within subject departments; 
  • support individual students as outlined in their Education & Health Care Plan and in liaison with the SENCo.

Little Heath School is a highly successful comprehensive school (1610 on roll, including 320 in the Sixth Form) situated in a pleasant semi-rural setting to the west of Reading, with good access to road and rail links.  As a school, we pride ourselves on our Continuing Professional Development Programme, which supports teachers to continually improve their practice in innovative ways collaborating with other members of staff in order to develop their practice.
