The Castle School meets the individual needs of 173 pupils between 3 and 19 years, all of whom have learning difficulties.

To meet the needs of individual pupils, we are seeking a Teaching Assistant. You will be working with pupils across the school (age range 3–19 years) who have learning difficulties, experience of Autism in an educational setting will be an advantage. Candidates must have a recognised qualification, NVQ3/NNEB or equivalent.

Working closely with the class teacher, you will support the needs of pupils as individuals or in small groups throughout the day, you will be required to implement education plans and provide assistance with programmes devised by other therapists. The Teaching Assistant can also be used to cover for teacher absence due to illness or training. Teaching Assistants also attend after school training on a Monday and Tuesday evening until 4:30pm.

You will also be required to assist with pupils’ personal needs. You will work across both school sites and in a variety of classrooms, so will need to be flexible and adaptable.

Applicants will need to have excellent people skills and a warm and caring personality. The ability to communicate effectively with pupils, parents and other staff is important. Opportunities for training are available and all staff are encouraged to take up these opportunities.

Pupils’ safety and well-being have the highest priority for all staff.
