Do you want to help support the provision for SEMH and ASD
across Maiden Erlegh Trust?

We can offer you:

  • a rewarding but challenging working environment.
  • an optimistic and motivating leadership team with a track record of improving schools.
  • a commitment to professional development, and a belief in driving improvement.

Hamilton School is an SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Special School in Reading educating up to 64 students with Education,Health Care Plans (EHCP). Our mission is to recognise each and every one of our students as individuals, and to nurture their potential, developing the whole child through a therapeutic approach. This means that you would have to be a resilient character who is able to remain positive when dealing with challenging behaviour. The school is currently going through a transition with a purpose-built school opening in Easter 2022 for up to 96 students.

We are looking for an open-minded, curious, kind and inspirational all-round site assistant/driver to support work at Hamilton School. The Site Assistant/Driver is part of the team that is responsible for the operation, management, maintenance and security of the school site and buildings. The team ensures the school’s premises and sites are conductive to health and safety and are attractive as possible, and that all facilities and equipment are maintained to an acceptable standard. The postholder will be responsible for ensuring works and maintenance jobs are completed on a priority basis under the general direction of the Business Manager and/or the Trust Estates Manager.

Alongside these responsibilities the successful applicant will also be required to drive students to off-site provisions in a timely and safe manner.

The successful applicant must be reliable, energetic and enthusiastic. You mustbe adaptable and willing to be involved in all aspects of school life, have a calm manner and be able to work as part of team. Additionally, experience of working within a trade (building, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work) would be desirable to help maintain and keep secure the school premises and site. Due to the nature of the role you must also hold a clean UK driver’s licence and have your own vehicle. You will have access to the school car and nine-seater mini bus.

In January 2020 Hamilton School joined the Maiden Erlegh Trust family of schools, whose motto is “schools for the community, schools as a community”. The aim for every school in the Trust, whilst espousing their values and ethos, and having a core of common policies and procedures, will serve its own community’s needs in a bespoke way and also create a feeling of community within its own school. In that way all the potential and talents of every child and every member of staff will be nurtured.

For more information on this post or to organise a visit to the school, please email our recruitment team on recruitment@maidenerleghtrust.org.

Closing date: Open until a successful appointment is made.

The Trust reserves the right to interview and appoint as applications are submitted.
