Bishopswood School in Sonning Common near Reading is a small and successful special school for pupils with a wide range of disabilities of which an increasing number are on the autistic spectrum. The school has an After School Club for children aged 5 to 16. We are looking to recruit an innovative individual who will further develop the After School Club and Holiday Club provision.

We are looking for a motivated and creative individual to lead and co-ordinate our After School and Holiday Clubs for the benefit of our children and young people. This is an exciting opportunity for an applicant who has experience of working with children and/or young people with special needs and who has a proven record of managing a team of people.

Short Breaks includes the following:

  • At least 2 days of After School Club during term-time (primarily primary children)
  • At least 1 day a week Youth Club during term-time (secondary children)
  • At least 30 days of Holiday Club during the school holidays across the year

The lead role includes:

  • Preparation and implementation of appropriate programmes for the children/ young people. This includes planning and record-keeping, setting up and running the play environment, managing the team to encourage and promote positive play opportunities.
  • Responsibility for staffing recruitment, staff induction and training.
  • Responsibility for preparing and updating all the necessary paperwork including invoicing, risk assessments, reports to governors and to the Short Breaks Disability Services Manager.
  • Effective liaison with the headteacher, teaching staff, clinical nurse, parents, school bursar and external organisations.
  • Responsibility for the financial management of the After School and Holiday Club.
  • Evaluation of the impact of all activities based on the quality of experiences and development of the children/young people.

This role is over 3 days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays (21 hours) throughout the year. The post holder will have a holiday entitlement of 17 days of which 2 weeks must be taken at Christmas and 1 week at the beginning or end of the summer holidays. The rest of annual leave must be taken in term-time (dates negotiable). Holiday Club will be for 10 weeks, 3 days a week (school half-terms and holidays, except Christmas).
