Required for September 2024 start.
Salary pro-rata term-time: £21,463 (actual).
7am–3pm Monday to Friday term-time only plus 3 Inset days
(inset days are additional paid days).

Churchmead School is an exciting 11–18 with currently 610 students on role. The successful candidate will have a passion for helping to cook freshly made high-quality meals and be a keen team member. Hours are 7am to 3pm Monday to Friday term-time only plus 3 Inset days (inset days are additional paid days).

The successful candidate will:

  • Prepare and cook Breakfast & Break, assist Head Chef with lunch prep
  • Observe school security and health and safety arrangements
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties
  • Be prepared to cover the Head Chef role in short term absences
  • Maintain the high standards of hygiene and food health and safety
  • Ensure that methods of preparation and presentation comply with current recognised catering standards and food safety legislation
  • Check deliveries and ensure all raw and cooked food is stored correctly
  • Ensure all Catering Assistants carry out the preparation and cooking of all meals to the recipe specifications and nutritional guidelines
  • Ensure all catering staff adhere to the portion standard yields as stated within the recipe specification and required by the school
  • Have input into menu changes 
  • Help implement local promotions/theme days, as required
  • Assist with stock control and rotation of stock
  • Maintain regular contact with the Head Chef
  • Assist with the induction of all new members of the catering staff
  • Report all accidents and unfit foods
  • Ensure that all aspects of health and safety legislation are complied with 
  • Adhere to the cleaning schedule is complied with and carry out cleaning as required
  • Assist with Food Hygiene Management system including daily monitoring records
  • Take all necessary steps to ensure maximum security of kitchen supplies and equipment
  • Carry out any other duties as directed by the Head Chef or School Business Manager as may from time to time be agreed, in accordance with the nature of the job as described above.

Catering experience essential, school experience desirable, to hold or foretake in Food Safety Training Certificate.
