Clerk to the Governors

Salary Level 5 SCP 15–19 (£12.36 to £13.33 per hour).
The Clerk’s working hours are variable but average about 10 hours monthly during term time.
Closing date: noon, Monday 15 July.

Priory school is one of the largest primary schools in the UK with capacity for 900 pupils between 5 and 10 years old and we have just been rated “good” again by Ofsted. The school is proud to meet the extra challenges of modern multicultural education and our well-behaved pupils have a positive learning attitude and achieve good educational progress.

The Board of Governors play a key role in the development and oversight of the school and make important decisions in areas such as curriculum, pupil targets, school improvement, budget, staffing, health and safety and premises management. Our Governors have a range of different backgrounds, skills and experience and are all volunteers who work together for the benefit of the school and the community it serves.

About the Role
We are seeking to appoint a Clerk to provide confidential administrative support to our Board of Governors at full Governing Body meetings and at Governor sub-committee meetings. The Clerk is a key member of the team and provides the Governors with record keeping, meeting planning and minute taking. It is a very interesting and rewarding role and requires attending approximately 12 meetings per school year.

The role is home based but with the requirement to attend meetings in school some evenings and occasionally in the morning. Experience of clerking in a school is desirable but not essential as training will be provided. The ideal person should have a flexible approach to working hours, good organisational skills and be a competent user of Microsoft Office applications.

If you are interested in schools and education and would like to work with a team of enthusiastic and dedicated Governor volunteers please email your application or for an informal chat about the role, please email Roy Barrett, Chair of Governors, at
